A slaughterhouse in Athol, Massachusetts is responsible for an e-coli outbreak that's affected three New Milford shops.

According to a United States Department of Agriculture press release, the Sherman IGA, the Davis IGA in Kent, and the Ox Hollow Farm in Roxbury, along with 77 other stores on the east coast might have received E-Coli affected beef, veal, and buffalo products from Adam's Farm Slaughterhouse in MA which has recalled all of the tainted meat.

This is what is called a Class 1 Recall, which is defined by the United States Department of Agriculture as:

A health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.

Keep in mind that even if a shop location is on the list, it doesn't necessarily mean they have sold contaminated meat. Visit this USDA link to find out which meat products have been recalled. According to mayoclinic.org, signs and symptoms of an e-coli infection usually happen three or four days after exposure to the bacteria. Symptoms include, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, along with nausea and vomiting. Two people in Connecticut have been sickened and hospitalized, along with five people in other states.
