It's been a glorious summer weather wise. Hot and sunny. You know we're going to pay for it one way or another.

As far as I'm concerned, a long, hot and sunny summer is the best thing ever. I am choosing to ignore the Old Farmers Almanac's long range prediction for New England Winter 2016 - 2017, which says it will be colder than last year. The upside is that they are predicting it may not be very snowy. Good news for those of us that hate commuting in blizzards.

But, you know what they say about New England weather, wait a minute, it'll change.

So with that in mind, coupled with our current dry, drought conditions, the trees in our state have become a concern.

According to the Eversource Energy's website, the company is taking steps to protect infrastructure from trees that are being impacted by the lack of rain in Connecticut.

In a posting on the Facebook page EversourceCT, Sean Redding, the Manager of Vegetation Management for Eversource stated:

We have seen incidents where trees or branches fell onto power lines when the weather was nice. That’s because the root systems that anchor the trees have been compromised by the extended drought.

And if you see low flying helicopters in your area over the next few weeks, don't freak out. The company has been sending tree experts in helicopters to inspect trees around power lines for possible drought stress.

No one needs to lose their power or worse, for that matter, because of what's been a beautiful but wicked dry summer.
