This past weekend, my family and I treated ourselves to some ice cream at Cream and Sugar Café in Bethel. While sitting in the independently-owned ice cream shop, I started thinking about all the independently owned businesses in town.

I love walking down Greenwood Ave. and wondering in to all the shops. There are a good amount of independently owned shops along that area. The best part is chatting with the owners of each of the establishments. All of the owners are so nice and knowledgeable about what they sell, which is helpful to all the customers that come in to the store.

It's always fun going to the Gift Cottage to see Joan, Bob, and Terri, stopping by the Toy Room and chatting with Kim, finding a good book and good conversation with Alice at Byrd's Books, or having a good meal and chatting with the gang at Greenwood's Grille. I think Alice and family at Cream & Sugar Café fit in perfectly with the independently owned business scene of Downtown Bethel.

Side note - try the Peanut Butter Pie and the Campfire S'mores flavors the next time you are in Cream & Sugar Café. They're really good!

What are some of your favorite independently owned businesses?
