Some of my friends did, but I was always scared!

In the late 80's, my friend's family bought a house on Bridge End Farm Lane in Sandy Hook. Lake Zoar was my playground through the 90s. We went out on their boats, and the kids jumping off Silver Bridge into the lake always fascinated me.

It really isn't a huge drop from street level, but some kids climbed up onto the steel girders and upped the ante. I remember many a red, sore back from the poorly-executed cannonball crowd.

They would emerge from their plunge into Lake Zoar's greenish-brown water, screaming "Ohhhhh my Gawwdddd! Did it look cool?"

I drive over that bridge often now, taking the backroads home when the I-84 traffic is brutal. They're rehabbing the bridge at this moment, they just installed traffic lights on the Southbury side, and the Sandy Hook side also.

I stopped and talked to one of the D.O.T. workers, and he told me that alternating one-way traffic will be the norm, as they make the much-needed repairs.

They will be completely closing the bridge during this rehab process at times, which they will give advance notice.

I may be much older and larger, but I just might pull over on River Road one of these days and take the great plunge that always intimidated me in my younger skinnier days.
