Twisted Sister legend Dee Snider has recorded an acoustic version of “We’re Not Gonna Take It” as a call to action for music industry workers to receive fair compensation.

Snider shared the piano-driven version of Twisted Sister’s classic protest anthem earlier this year, but now we’ve got an official music video and a specific cause to which to tie the track. Premiered by Entertainment Weekly, the video explains how hundreds of music creators went to Washington D.C. to tell congress it’s time to update the laws governing music.

In particular, the video details how pre-internet copyright laws limit the royalties collected by today’s creators, how radio corporations don’t pay performers or producers for radio play and how songwriters get below-market rates for their work based on a law from the piano player era.

The acoustic track has been chosen as The Recording Academy’s official anthem for the advocacy efforts and will appear on Dee Snider’s upcoming solo album, We Are The Ones.

“The album’s message is very much on point with the things I’ve always been singing about,” Snider says. “I’m hoping by moving forward as a solo artist with stuff like this, that the songwriting and performances will stand up to the best of what’s going on today. I want to earn my place in the current music scene.”

The disc will also feature a cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Head Like a Hole." Dee says of the track, "I always thought it was a great song, a powerful song. I can’t wait to do that one live. Like 'We’re Not Gonna Take It' is iconic, 'Head Like a Hole’ is iconic for that era.”

We Are The Ones is scheduled for an October 2016 release. To buy a copy of Dee’s acoustic rendition of “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” click here.
