Police say a Danbury teen threatened a Hudson Valley family with a knife in attempt to steal the family’s car on Easter.

According to State Police on Sunday around 4:00 p.m., a family traveling in their vehicle pulled over onto the shoulder of State Route 172 in the Town of Bedford to take a break from driving. While resting in their vehicle 18-year-old Christopher A. Guaman of Danbury, Connecticut opened the driver’s side door and threatened the operator with a knife in an attempt to car-jack the vehicle.

The victim was able to save his family, and car, and suddenly drive away. The victim then called police to report the incident.

State Troopers on patrol searched the area and located Guaman. He was taken into custody after a short foot chase, officials say.

Guaman was charged with 1st-degree attempted robbery, a class C felony. He was arraigned in the Town of Bedford Court and remanded to Westchester County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to reappear in Bedford Court on March 30.
