Things you need to know on August 7.
Thanks to MetroNews Source for the following.

  • Danbury Hospital gets a great rating. A new report indicates that Danbury Hospital is one of Connecticut's best hospitals. U.S. News and World Report says Danbury only trails Yale New Haven Hospital and Hartford Hospital as the best in the state. The report indicates that Danbury Hospital exceeds the expected standard of care in treating heart failure, COPD and knee replacements.
  • Good news for Connecticut students. The federal government has approved Connecticut's request to cut back on testing of eleventh graders. High schoolers will now only take the SAT in the eleventh grade. The test will be free for all students. Connecticut students will not have to take the Smarter Balance Assessment, which officials say will eliminate over-testing, cut student stress and address parental concerns.
  • You want it, you need it, you have to have it. The Apple Watch goes on sale today at Best Buy. Best Buy is the first third-party retailer to sell the smartwatch.
  • Parents - you need to read this.  A study released by Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and Liberty Mutual Insurance says teens are feeling the need to immediately answer text messages from their parents, even while driving. A recent survey shows that 55 percent of teens say they text while driving to update their parents. Almost 20 percent say they believe their parents want a response within one minute. The survey also shows 37 percent of teens report texting to confirm or coordinate events and 88 percent say they use phone apps while on the road. Nearly 60 percent of parents say they don't set expectations on response times from their children.
