It's a teaching honor that is bestowed on very few. Only select individuals in the entire world ever get nominated for this award, and a local Danbury teacher has won it.

Her name is Nicole Martone, English Department Head and English teacher at Danbury High School, and she has received the Master Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education.

In order to be eligible to earn this designation, an educator must have already completed a number of milestones like having more than 15 years of classroom teaching experience; you or one of your fellow administrators must submit evidence of professional development. Then, there are other qualities they look for, like leadership, community service and exceptional contributions to the education profession; and you must demonstrate a commitment to integrity and high standards in the classroom. The award recognizes teachers of all levels, from early childhood instructors to university faculty members.

According to fellow English teacher Greg Euchner, who commented on Ms. Martone on the Danbury High School Facebook page, citing Nicole’s experience, empathy, and attention to detail that make her a highly effective department chair who has improved the atmosphere of the department. "Her ability to recognize best practices and allow them to flourish has made a difference that is felt by teachers and students alike.”

Currently, a doctoral student at Lesley University, Martone earned a sixth-year diploma from Quinnipiac University, a master’s degree from Quinnipiac University, and a bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
