Freedom = a long holiday weekend. But don't let all hell break loose either.

Hopefully, you are one of the thousands of people who will be enjoying a long holiday weekend off. Cheers to you, your weekend parties, celebrations, and road trips. I sure want you all back rocking with us next week, so keep moderation in the festivities, and be safe.

To that end, the Connecticut State Police want us all to know they'll be out in force on the roads. Troopers will be focusing their weekend enforcement efforts on drunk drivers, speeders, seat belt violations and distracted driving.

In a press release from the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection on Ct.gov State Police are also planning to set up sobriety checkpoints in strategic locations around the state. There are numerous check points set up around the state from now through Labor Day, Monday September 5. For a listing go to CT.gov.

Part of the press release has this reminder:

A final reminder to all drivers: anyone who consumes alcohol should never get behind the wheel; establish a designated driver before your holiday weekend activities begin.  There are no second chances for first time offenders.  On a first offense an Ignition Interlock Device can be installed on your vehicle if you are arrested for DWI and your driver’s license is suspended.

If you see a suspected drunk driver, or hazardous driver, call 911 as this is a true emergency.

We all deserve to let loose, but please do it with concern for yourself and others in mind.
