Things you need to know on August 10.

Thanks to MetroNews Source for the following.

  • Get ready for a new and improved DMV. The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles will be closed for most services for the next week. All services except licensing services will be shut down until next week for a major computer system upgrade. Once the work is finished, the DMV will offer greatly expanded online services, including better online registration renewals, purchases of vanity plates and more.
  • Saving again at the pump. The ongoing slump in crude oil prices means the average price for a gallon of gas is down eleven cents in the past two weeks. The latest Lundberg survey says regular gas on average now costs just over two-70 a gallon.
  • Drivers beware! A new study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that you are likely sharing the road with a drunk driver. The research found that about four-point-two-million people admitted to driving while intoxicated at least once over the prior month. The 2012 data found the "typical' drunk driver is a young male with a history of binge drinking.
  • Listening to music may help people with epilepsy avoid having seizures. An Ohio State University researcher found that in the part of the brain that processes information from sound, the electrical activity in epileptic patients synchronized to music they were hearing. The patients had no seizures during the experiment even though brainwave synchronization normally would cause them, and they also said listening to the music made them feel more relaxed.
