All Tim McGraw wants to do is help out an organization called "Sandy Hook Promise." According to the News-Times, the non-profit group has been making headlines when it announced that country mega-star, Tim McGraw would headline a benefit concert on July 17th in Hartford. Sandy Hook Promise is led by several family members who lost loved ones in the horrific shootings on December 12, 2012.

The "Sandy Hook Promise's" mission statement is........"Protect children from gun violence so no other parent experiences the loss of their child by engaging and empowering parents and communities with targeted prevention programs in the areas of mental wellness early-identification & intervention, social and emotional development and firearm safety and security." When the controversy began, gun rights advocates criticized McGraw, who's a gun owner himself, and accused him of selling out his principles. McGraw said he saw no contradiction between supporting gun ownership and supporting education and gun safety.

Eleven families originally distanced themselves from the organization due to the upcoming benefit concert. Recently, the non-profit organization released a signed statement thanking the families involved with SHP for making it clear that proceeds from McGraw's July 17th concert will only benefit the organization's advocacy work and not the families who lost loved ones in the tragedy. All proceeds go towards protection and prevention programs. The official letter finished up with, "These initiatives, in turn, will help hundreds of thousands of children and families across the country."
