With our 40th wedding anniversary just around the corner, I've been conducting some high level research into some romantic getaway locations.

Don't give Mindy the heads up about this blog. It's supposed to be a surprise. No worries, she doesn't listen to The Ethan and Lou Show because she says the humor is too juvenile. So, after 2 days of exhaustive research, here are some of the most recommended romantic getaways in Connecticut.

    Inn at Stonington

Rated #1 on the Tripadvisory website with 5 stars and a Certificate of Excellence, the Inn at Stonington in Stonington Borough, CT is the leading contender for our 40th Anniversary weekend! Couples raved about the coziness, comfortable beds, room service, the awesome food, and location in town. Room rates run from $190 to $400 per night, depending on the season, and if you're looking to book a seaside deluxe room.

    Saybrook Point Inn and Spa

The Saybrook Point Inn and Spa located in Old Saybrook, CT looks gorgeous! Reviewers on Tripadvisor.com rave about everything, from the food to the service to the views to the beautiful rooms, which brings me to the reason we will never stay here. Rooms range from $344 per night to around $500 per night depending on what type of room you choose. I love luxury just as much as the next guy, but I'm not spending $400 to sleep in a nice room. I don't care how hot my wife is. Let's move on.

    Madison Beach Hotel

The Madison Beach Hotel, located in Madison, Connecticut, is like the Saybrook Point Inn and the Inn at Stonington, in that all three are right on the water of Long Island Sound. Like the other two hotels, Madison Beach gets high marks from Trip Advisor along with their Certificate of Excellence award.

Evidently, you need to be quick on the draw because this popular hotel is pretty much booked up through the summer, except for some weekday dates. Rates during the week run between $379 to $460 per night. Another romantic getaway out of my price range. Guess we could stay at the Roadway Inn in Branford for $69 a night.

    The Interlaken Inn

Located in the beautiful northwest corner of Connecticut in Lakeville, and the only one of the four not situated near a body of water, The Interlake Inn still scores high marks from Tripadvisor, along with their Certificate of Excellence.

Room prices range from $299 per night for a standard room, to $649 per night for a suite. Reviewers loved the quality of service, the food, and many mentioned that the Interlaken was perfect for group events.
