For New Englanders, the fall season is the mack-daddy of them all!

Ask anyone who lives in Connecticut, Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, or New Hampshire, and they will unequivocally inform you that Fall is one of the reasons they love living in New England. And if you're as obnoxious as I am about taking landscape-type photos, warm up your camera phone or Nikon, because we'll be snapping photos all day long.

NEW ENGLAND FOLIAGE AT ITS PEAK

The leaves are at their peak in Maine, northern Vermont, and northern New Hampshire during the weekend of October 7-9. The rest of Vermont and New Hampshire's foliage shines the brightest around October 11th and 12th. Peak foliage colors in Massachusetts are best between October 13th and the 15th, and then Connecticut's color shines the brightest from October 18 through Ocotber 20. Check out newengland.com for all the details.

According to foliagenetwork.com, there are five gorgeous, scenic fall foliage drives in Connecticut. Here are the highlights to the Litchfield/Northwest Region drive:

This will take you past the Housatonic River, which is known for its excellent fly fishing and white water rafting. You'll pass by two covered bridges, Bull's Bridge in Kent and Kent Falls Bridge in Kent Falls State Park. You'll drive through the historic town of Kent, with its quaint shops, and also pass by Mount Tom State Park.

If you have the time, and you're in the mood for a semi-challenging hike, take the trail up to Mount Tom Tower. If you climb to the top of the tower, on a clear day, you'll be able to see Mount Everett in Massachusetts, the Catskills in New York, and Long Island Sound. The walk is worth every aching muscle. If Mount Tom's not your style, this foliage drive crosses the Appalachian Trail. Download the map by clicking this link.
