Rebecca Townsend of Brookfield completed the last item off of her bucket list on July 2: to save a life. Unfortunately, she had to sacrifice her own life to save another.

BuzzFeed News paid tribute to the teen who was on her way to view a fireworks display in Danbury, when she was in was hit by a car.

When Townsend's friend was released from the hospital, he revealed to her family that she had actually saved his life by pushing him away from the car.

"The last thing I remember is Rebecca pushing me and telling me to hurry up,’” he said, according to what Townsend's sister told BuzzFeed.

Townsend's sister and her cousins were sitting in her room sharing their favorite memories of Townsend when they found her bucket list. During Townsend's sophomore year of high school, she was assigned to make a bucket list which consisted of three things:

  • To kiss in the rain
  • To go to Spain
  • To save a life
"It was a little sign that she was OK," Townsend's sister told BuzzFeed.

BuzzFeed reports that last summer she completed the first two items when she went to Spain with her family and boyfriend, and kissed her boyfriend in the rain.

Townsend's family has set up a Facebook page called "Remembering Rebecca" to encourage people to do things for others. There has been an overwhelming response of good deeds; from paying for people's coffee to paying for a stranger's yoga class.

Rebecca's story has reached Finland and even attracted some celebrities who are honoring her.
