Over the last year, the four corners in Brookfield has been undergoing a major renovation, and now we're learning that plans are underway to apply for the development of a 10,000-square-foot grocery store at 731 Federal Road.

Now don't get confused, this new project would be located on the 7.3-acre property that's right across the street from where Laurel Hill Road meets Federal Road. This will not be a part of the "new" downtown area that's currently under construction right at the Four Corners.

The interested developer, the Key Food cooperative, operates stores under brands Key Food, The Food Emporium, Food Universe, Food Dynasty and Super Fresh. Right now, the proposal is still in the very early stages. According to newstimes.com, Paul Scalzo the owner of the property said "there is a ways to go and plans will be presented to the town in the next 60 days or so.”

Betsy Paynter, Brookfield’s economic and community development manager, had this to say to newstimes.com about the new proposed super market:

A formal application has not been submitted, but I have spoken with the developer and representatives from Key Food. Submitting an application would be the next step for the developer. A grocery store would be a foundation for the growing Brookfield Town Center area. All of northern Brookfield would benefit from having a neighborhood grocery store in the area.

Right now, the only supermarket located in Brookfield is the ShopRite about three miles south from the proposed new market.
