A Bethel cancer survivor has assembled a David Bowie tribute band to honor the Rock legend, to benefit Ann's Place, and to celebrate her own one-year anniversary of being cancer-free.

Bethel resident, Wendy Mitchell, was diagnosed with breast cancer last January. While fighting the disease, she blogged relentlessly about her battle, her surgeries, and treatments. Her words have served as inspiration for others who are fighting cancer, and as a warning for women to have annual mammograms and frequent self-inspections.

In celebration of her one-year battle, Wendy is hosting a party Friday, February 26 at Michael's at the Grove on Vail Road in Bethel (formerly Capellaro's grove). Admission is $45, and includes appetizers, dinner, desserts, coffee and tea. A cash bar will be available, and there will be raffles as well, including an Ibanez acoustic guitar donated by Guitar Hangar. Proceeds will benefit Ann's Place, a non-profit Cancer support center.

Musical entertainment for the evening includes the bands Two Dollar Hat, Guy Tino, Frank Chiafari, Good Medicine Rx, Allison Kellogg, and Diamond Dogs, a David Bowie tribute band, assembled especially for the night featuring Wendy herself.
