Just after 4:00 AM on Friday morning (September 14), Bethel police report that officers noticed a red Ford Econoline parked parallel to the building at the Wheels Sunoco Station on Stony Hill Road in Bethel.

As they pulled into the parking lot to investigate, they reported seeing two individuals dressed all in black with ski masks covering their faces, allegedly attempting to break into the front doors.

The alleged would-be burglars reportedly fled the scene when they noticed police approaching and Brookfield, Newtown and Connecticut State Police were alerted to assist. State Police K-9 "Union" led police to the behind the gas station and into Newtown. That's where police say they tracked down one of the suspects, 34-year-old Ansonia resident Fabian Rodriguez.

The second suspect has not yet been apprehended, but police expect an arrest soon.

Police say the Ford van in question was reported stolen earlier that same morning from Bridgeport, CT.

Rodriguez was arrested by Bethel Police and taken to Danbury Hospital to be treated for a dog bite. He is being held on the following charges:

  • Atempted Burglary
  • Conspiracy to commit Burglary
  • Interfering with Police
  • Larceny of a vehicle
  • Criminal Mischief
