Bear sightings in Connecticut have picked up significantly over the last year. Common sense tells us, do not try to engage Mr. Bear in conversation or attempt to take Mr. Bear's picture because all he wants to do is EAT you.

Over the last year, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection have had 4,439 reports of bear sightings in Connecticut. Avon leads the way with 453, followed by Farmington with 357 bear sightings. In the greater Danbury area there have been 240 sightings.

These large, sometimes ferocious creatures are looking to chow down. If you've seen a bear or heard of a sighting in your neck of the woods, here are some "Do's and Don't's."

When you see a bear near your home:

DO...Run like a son-of-a-bitch if they tap you on the shoulder..............

DO... Remove bird feeders and bird food..............

DO... Clean grills and store them away................

DON'T...Leave food attractants out like garbage pails...............

DON'T...Intentionally feed the bears because they will return often and become a problem

DON'T...Leave pet food out overnite......................

Bears Seen While Hiking or Camping:

DO...Make your presence known by yelling or waving your arms....................

DO...Keep your dogs on a leash.....................

DO...Walk away slowly if you surprise a bear nearby.................

DON'T...Cook food near your tent or store food in or near your tent...................

DON'T...Climb a tree(Who can actually climb a damn tree?!!)..but wait in a vehicle or                                 building until the bear takes whatever the hell it wants...............

The probability of a bear actually attacking a human is fairly low, so "removing" a bear is         usually not necessary unless it's in an urban area buying some crack or attacking a                 street side hot dog vendor.
