Back to school season is underway. But "learning" and "teaching" should start at home. Have you taught your kids these important "life lessons?"

The DAILY MAIL recently did a survey and came up with 59 of the most important life lessons that parents should teach their kids. You can click on DAILY MAIL to read them all but I figured we could focus on a few.

    Say PLEASE and THANK YOU

Always say "please" and "thank you." Seems like a "no brainer," but twice this past weekend I had to look at a child and say ... "and what do you say."

  • 2

    Show Respect

Always respect your elders. For that matter, show respect to everyone. You get in return what you give. And even if you don't - be the better person.

  • 3

    Use Good Table Manners

Obvious? Have you eaten with people? So parents while you're working on this one with your children, freshen up your manners too.

  • 4

    Tell the Truth Always

Lies will haunt you. Lies will hurt you. Lies will catch up with you. The truth will set you free. That's a life lesson we should learn at birth.

  • 5

    Don't Talk to Strangers

Sad that we've had to initiate "Stranger Danger," but better safe than sorry I always say.

  • 6

Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day

Your mouth is the gateway to everything in your body. Brushing is key.

  • 7

    Be Kind to Others

How much better could our world be if we all treated one another with kindness. Back to the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Stop, think, be kind.

  • 8

    Be Confident

So important yet not an easy lesson to impart. There's that thin line between "confident" and "cocky". Hey nobody said the parenting thing was easy!

  • 9

    Be Helpful

As soon as possible children should be taught to be helpful.  Lend a helping hand through out your life and you've lived a good life.

  • 10

    Admit When You Are Wrong

Such a hard lesson to learn but one that will stand by you for a lifetime. Saying the words "I was wrong" goes a long way. Truly meaning it is priceless.
