While we're still waiting for confirmation from the medical examiner to confirm, a nearly two month nationwide manhunt for a Connecticut man may be over.

According to a press release from the New Haven Police Department, Virginia State Police in Sussex County engaged in a pursuit and subsequent shooting after troopers say a vehicle that reported stolen out of Connecticut refused to pull over on Interstate 95 at around 8:18 AM on Wednesday (August 1).

The report says that as the chase was underway a suspect in the reportedly stolen vehicle began to shoot at the trooper's cruiser. Then, as the pursuit continued off of I-95 and onto side roads in Sussex County, Virginia, police allege that the suspect fired at a group of state troopers who were prepared to stop the fleeing vehicle.

During the course of that particular exchange, a K-9 police dog was shot and passed away, according to Sergeant Michelle Anaya.

The suspect, a man New Haven police say could very well be Tramaine Marquese Poole, died at the scene.

As reported in June, Tramaine Marquese Poole is wanted by police for the shooting of his wife on May 7 as well as the murder of a 28-year-old New Haven woman as her small children sat inside of a car with her.

Police say Detectives from the New Haven Major Crimes Division are en route to Sussex County Virginia, and hope to confirm the identity of the deceased suspect soon.
