The grandiose Bennett School for Girls in Millbrook, NY has been standing vacant for the last 38 years, and it's awesomely creepy.

Built as a luxury hotel in 1890, the Bennett School for Girls purchased the property in 1907, and turned it into a school for the rich and privileged. The course of study was six years - four years of high school and two years of college courses - until the early 20th century. That's when it switched its course of study to a junior college.

The girl's school began having problems in the early 70's when most of the country's colleges were co-ed. Bennett tried to restructure and adapt to the changes, but it was too little, too late, and Bennett College closed their doors in 1978.

My daughter and her friend's curiosity got the better of them in 2006 when they decided to pay a visit to Bennett. She recalled that both of them were scared to death when they saw the stairs to the basement. Without saying a word to each other, they knew they weren't allowed to go down there. Allie's friend remembered climbing through a window from the outside into the kitchen, and the first thing she saw was a big board with hooks on it. Each hook was holding a set of old fashioned master keys to the entire school.

So, is the school actually haunted?

According to theparanormalguide.com, reports of creepy things going on were mild at best, with doors closing by themselves. Other individuals who have explored Bennett have reported that, at times, the house would go pitch black without warning, and then light back up.

The inside of Bennett had the best of everything, from classrooms to the auditorium and even the furniture. For 38 years, the school has laid dormant with the beautiful structure sadly rotting away. Many attempts have been made to demolish the property to build luxury condos, but the majestic old school still stands. We'll finish up by taking the YouTube tour with Josh:
