Former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of murder in the first degree by a Massachusetts jury Wednesday.

He was also found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Hernandez, who was on trial for the shooting death of Odin Lloyd, was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Prosecutors said that Hernandez, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace were seen with Lloyd before his death. CNN reports that Hernandez's attorney maintained that the football player was a witness to the murder, which was carried out by Ortiz and Wallace who are alleged drug dealers.

Ortiz and Wallace have plead not guilty and will be tried separately.
