Are you stuck in the "if I knew then what I know now" part of your career? Did you pursue a degree and build your career on a dying profession?

Yeah, I know, I picked the wrong field. With streaming music and the broadcasting industry being consolidated like many others, it's a hard career choice to survive in. But when you have a passion to do something, and you're 18 years old, what are you thinking about? Way back when, we didn't think about the future as much as college-bound kids do today.

WorkandMoney.com reports that there are definetly some work situations to avoid. Let's take a look at a few:

  • Travel Agent - who doesn't book their own travel online? However, a career built on being an expert in a travel niche like corporate or luxury travel could be the way to go.
  • Mortgage Brokers, Financial Planners and Bookkeepers - these numbers based careers have dropped significantly over the years thanks to online programs. If this is what you do, it would be best to direct your mathematical talents in another financial services area.
  • Information Technology Professionals aka "The IT Person" - when your computer goes down, is there someone in your office that you can call upon to quickly fix the situation? Probably not anymore. However, to continue to suceed in this career choice, IT pros can work remotely, which costs less and also allows them to serve more clients.
  • Floral Designers - between the internet, supermarkets and pinterest, this career is withering. Focus instead on the growing fields of displays and interior design.
  • Postal Workers - 10 years ago, the Post Office delivered 212 billion pieces of mail. Last year, that number was only 149 billion.
  • Jeweler - all that sparkly stuff is being increasingly produced overseas and an 11% decline in the number of jewelers in the United States is predicted over the next 5 years.
